Folk music live in the Mall

Patrick Cogswell and Skyport Ade Tucker, a duo these days, but solo players too; both blues legends in their day. Skyport writes a song a week about Basingstoke, quite a feat under the circumstances.

Bill Mackinnon, passionate singer and song writer, moving spirit of Newbury Jam, excellent musician on many instruments and writer of the Beautiful Chaddleworth Maid and other songs of a local theme.

Dave Newson, musical entrepreneur, creator of the brilliant but short lived Oxford Roots, superb musician and session player, a virtuoso of the Base Guitar.

Richard Cox-Smith, increasingly celebrated, a man of steel and superb fingers, modest and stunning at the same time, what more can be said, ran the sessions at the Rampant Cat for many a year.

Plus.. A mystery lady, not yet revealed her name, but watch the horizon closely.

1:00 Monkey Music Monkey Music
songs, listening games and movement for the very young to join in

Monkey Music introduces music to very young children in a way they can understand and enjoy. They learn in a fun, stimulating, musical environment amongst their friends.

Babies and toddlers adore Monkey Music, they sing and play, point and wave, clap and pat, shake and tap, dance, march and wiggle, jiggle and giggle with their friends…all in time to the music! The not-so-little Monkeys (aged 2-3 years) sing, dance, play, chatter and listen together. Their confidence develops as they use percussion instruments, musical games and their tuneful singing voices!

Monkey MusicThe 3 and 4 year olds - the wisest group of Monkeys - are the most challenged. Ears wagging, feet tapping, hands clapping, bodies swaying, eyes blinking, heads nodding…musicians are emerging!

Today's demonstration will be run by Hungerford and Thatcham Monkey Music teacher Lucy Tyler who plays cello and piano. She is very interested in children with special needs and has acquired some sign-language skills, which she uses with one of her own children. Lucy has very subtly incorporated this into her singing during Monkey Music classes and it is very interesting to watch children absorb it.
