Newbury Fringe is over for this year!
What were you doing on Sunday 29th May? If you weren't in the centre of Newbury then you missed a wonderful day of festival fun, all for free!
It all started in Victoria Park, but also took place in the stunning Corn Exchange Balcony Bar, the Kennet Shopping Centre and the Market Place. There was multicultural sound, street theatre, dance and craft activities of every kind.
The Fringe is a showcase for the local talent of West Berkshire and North Hants; something for every member of the family, in the very heart of Newbury.
Whether you are sixteen or sixty there was music to suit all tastes - swing, rock, pop, jazz and African drumming in the park from noon through to evening, jazz and classical in the Balcony Bar of the Corn Exchange and dance in the Kennet Centre - exotic middle eastern dancing included!
What was in the Market Place then? The answer is... the stunning Feltre Flag Wavers visiting Newbury from twin-town Feltre, Italy. Organised by the Twin Town Association they were an amazing sight with heart stopping sound. A unique chance to see this famed group rarely seen in this country - a fabulous sight for your camera!
Calling all children! You could have painted a mural with artist Tessa Kirby, taken part in a children's karaoke session, wowed everyone with a painted face or listened to story-teller Fionnaghal. Artist Paul Forsey was inviting you to create mosaics from old ceramic pots. There were many more hands-on craft experiences to suit everyone; sculpture, spinning, weaving and lace making.
There was a hint of Paris in the air as artists laid their paintings on the railings for Art on the Park and also the Open Studios exhibition "Pour Plusieurs Raisons" at the Corn Exchange.
Sorry if you missed us but we look forward to seeing you in Newbury again on Bank Holiday Sunday 28th May 2006.
