Newbury Fringe Festival Programme finalised
The Newbury Fringe Festival programme has been finalised. Next Sunday 29th May will see the annual free festival present 19 arts activities and workshops for children and adults to join in with in Newbury's Victoria park. Alongside on the park railings will be the ever popular Art on the Park, Newbury's unique showcase of original work by local arts and craftspeople.
Visiting Italian flag wavers will be parading, drumming and waving in the town centre. Eight dance troupes will perform in the Kennet Shopping Centre, including Thai and Middle Eastern dancing.
An afternoon concert in the Newbury Corn Exchange Balcony Bar will present pianist Oliver Williams, a choral recital by Emily Hurley; traditional madrigals and personal poetry from the Enborne Consort and Newbury Poets Workshop; and the Park House String Trio playing a selection of classical movements.
The day's events will be opened by the Mayor of Newbury at 12 noon on the Bandstand in Victoria Park where the Park House Swing Band, RhythmWorks African Drummers and jazz poet AF Harold will be followed by 13 local bands and singers, finishing at 9pm.
Newbury Fringe Festival this year starts with an extra evening of music at the Bandstand in Victoria Park next Saturday 28th May. 'Acoustic in the Park' starts at 4pm and will feature 11 signed and unsigned bands and singers. Opened by the incredible blues singer Rob Reynolds this Fringe extra will build to a climax with the warmth and acoustic guitar of Kate Walsh singing from the heart as only she can.
