Judges will be looking for:
Good breathing and quality of tone   Expression and dynamics
Clarity and articulation   Communication and quality of performance
Competition rules
  1. Competitors must be secondary school age at the time of the competition (i.e. 11-18yrs)
  2. Competitors may sing a solo of up to three minutes (music will be faded beyond this time)
  3. Competitors may choose their own song, which may be pop, jazz, classical or any other style
  4. Competitors may choose to sing unaccompanied, or may choose to be accompanied by a pianist, guitarist or other instrumentalist. A piano will be provided at the venue.
  5. Any accompanists must be provided by the competitors themselves for musical accompaniment only (no backing vocals or part singing)
  6. Competitors may accompany themselves, but they will receive no extra marks for this
  7. Competitors may choose to use a backing track. A CD player will be provided. Competitors must mark clearly on the CD their name and contact number and the number of the track to be played
  8. Competitors singing over an artist on a turned down CD will be disqualified (this does not apply to backing vocals)
  9. Material used must be non offensive regarding subject matter and language
  10. No microphones will be used
  11. Three judges and a small rolling audience will watch the performances
  12. Winners of all competitions will be decided on the day and awarded their trophies on the Victoria Park bandstand at 5pm
  13. Neither West Berkshire Council nor Newbury Fringe Festival will take responsibility for the supervision of competitors. Parents and guardians may accompany their children and be part of the small rolling audience
