It has been said that the idea of a 'fringe' arts festival started in Edinburgh in 1947 when the Edinburgh International Festival was launched. Since then many Fringe Festivals have been staged around the world - this list of links contains some of them.

It is worth bearing in mind that festival organisers often restrict entry to their sites whilst they are finalising their new programme. If you find that a site shows only the splash screen when you arrive then it might be worth revisiting the site regularly until it is fully launched!
