Will Kevans
Singer-songwriter Will Kevans released his debut solo album in April. He has been recording with Brixton-based producer Andy Hughes from The Orb, who recently worked on the Basement Jaxx new album; Ian Brimble who produced Travis and The Manic Street Preachers and two tracks with Gavin Monaghan who recently produced The Editors and top selling album by Nizpoli.
Will is also featured on a compilation album, due for release by Universal later this year, alongside James Morrison, James Blunt, The Goo Goo Dols and Keane.
Last year Will won the Song of the Year competition in the Pop category with Out There in Austin Texas. Will released the track on his own label as a single and it received great critical acclaim, with Zeitgeist describing it as "a glistening piece of summer pop from the pen of Junk TV main man, Will Kevans which was a real eye opener. Very Ian McNabb meets Squeeze, and heartily recommended".
Karim Fanous
Debut at The Fringe
was born in Riyadh.
I moved to London when I was six.
I listened to music from when I was in the womb (in Mombassa).
I learned how to play the guitar when I was 16.
If I hadn't sustained severe shoulder injuries I might have been playing rugby instead of music.
If I hadn't learned the guitar I might have been playing the clarinet in concert bands in my spare time instead.
I love Ice Cream.
Good shoes are very important.
My truest musical loves are AC/DC and Joni Mitchell.
I love all good music. My first memories of listening to music are from listening to fantastic 80's pop in Riyadh (think Thriller and Bad). First I learned to play classical music. When I was 14 I began my love affair with AC/DC and rock music. When I was 16 I began to love blues, then learnt the guitar. Britpop was my spiritual becoming. Beat has always been in my heart. I began to accept and admire classic Jazz records only a few years ago. At this particular moment in time I seem to be swimming in a pool of old school funk and breaks love.
The best gigs I have ever been to may have been Oasis at Earls Court (95), AC/DC at Wembley Arena (97), Eric Clapton at the Albert Hall (95), Sting at the Albert Hall (2004) Eric Bibb at The Queen Elizabeth Hall (2002) and the three guys on a street corner in Santiago De Cuba (2000). Too many more to mention but these are the highlights.
What do I want from music? To connect with the crowd is the most important thing. It is the biggest rush in the world and so beautiful because it is so inclusive. And I want to make great recordings that people like! And money too for doing all this would be nice. But I'd do it anyway. My main guitar companion soldier is called Biloo and is a very special baritone acoustic. Called Biloo as a cross between a name and Baloo the bear. Recently I found out that Biloo in Greek means something a bit controversial........ My other studio soldier companions are called Yamzin, Sinbad, Maribelle, Cassie and Deano.
What do I want to do? I want to sing for you...
'Soaring, raspy vocals, and a deep soul sound... tender smithery and inventive guitar work... a man with great singer-songwriter aspirations and a passion for hum-able and traditional melodies.' Dan Round, Is In God The TV
'Karim Fanous is a songwriter with a difference... Karim FaMous is clearly one to watch!' Liz Harvs, Whisperin & Hollerin
'Creative guitar work that embraces blues, rock and simple pop to create some tight, irresistible tunes.' Jo Vallance, Room Thirteen
'Fanous is a talented, energetic musician and an intelligent writer of songs' Richard Lancashire, Classic Rock Society
'An exciting songwriter and a million miles from the stagnant pool of acoustic strummers writhing in eternal open mic-nights' Tom Cassidy, Student Pages

Simon Scardanelli
We are very pleased to have Simon returning to this year's festival
A welcome return for the guitarist, singer, writer and performer who has constantly bucked the trend, Scardanelli's songs combine gritty realism with soaring melody and quirky English eccentricity.
'Simon Scardanelli is completely individual and utterly uncompromising. His dynamic performance takes you on musical journeys through seedy underbellies to profound ruminations. An expert guitarist with a unique voice, Simon has talent in abundance but his ability to make a stage his own is a strength unparalleled by most performers.' - Oscar Cainer.
Damian Etherington Band
Debut at The Fringe
Damian Etherington, the Canadian born singer-songwriter, currently resides in the UK. His music has been described as having an eclectic freshness and with thought provoking lyrics. He brings a unique rhythmic guitar style that blends fluent finger-picking and selective strumming/drumming with a voice to match. It's becoming dubbed as 'acoustic flair'.
Starting on the piano at an early age he moved to the drums then over to the guitar, immediately finding a resonance with finger style. Classic rock was an early influence yet he found that other genres were interesting also. If asked now what type of music is his favourite, he would tell you, "It's like picking one letter in the alphabet and using only that one to communicate. Why limit yourself when there is a wealth of letters to draw from. This is why I love to share music because it's never boring!"
You might experience this mix at a show. Be expected to hear Latin/Spanish flamenco and bluegrass undertones. A rock-ragtime-blues piece often finds its way into the set. All is woven together to create a 'in the moment' sound. Now with his band, Rebecca Lee on double bass and Guy Davies on drums, the trio are poised to create a force of acoustic flair that is accessible to all.
Damian recently told The Fringe " We are excited for the opportunity to share music from the EP/album release Stride".

Nina Mccann
Born in 1974, Nina was raised in the village of Overton, Hampshire. Given a guitar for her eighth birthday, she soon developed a great bond with her six string, always playing, but shying away from performing publicly.
This probably explains why her music has been a long time coming, but if there is such a thing as perfect timing or facing the music and quite literally, then this is it, she has found her moment.
There is something uniquely different about this artist that must be heard.
Nina's ability to write independently proves her strength as a songwriter because here is someone who is not a crowd follower, but a person who is establishing her own musical identity. Both artist and song can hold their own and it is even more apparent when faced with the true test of an act to deliver live, a good voice with honest melodies fused together with a rolling acoustic guitar epitomises what Nina is all about.
It is all this and more that is making headway for this talented, new UK artist that ensures her potential and longevity within the global music scene.

Odis Palmer
Odis Palmer returns to the Fringe on the Sunday performing solo and on the Monday with his band.
"So! Thoughts, feelings and stories about me I suppose that sums up what I write about. How long have I been writing for? a long time and singing for longer than that, some of you might recognise me from the X factor (UK only) I got down to the final 15 in 2004 the last 5 in Simon Cowells (form American idol, US only) little camp!"
"Got to give a shout out to The Common Moral Cause because they BANG BABY!! (ok ok I admit it I'm biased ) I've been playing with them for close to four years now and played venues including LA2 aka Mean fiddler , Zodiac in oxford, Jagz in ascot and the Jazz café in reading. Again if you've got the time check them out (there in my top 12 of course). Also check out Mamas Gun and The Shake (you know it makes sense!) and don't be a stranger there are too many out there already."
Civilised Tears
music is medication' a way to turn the chaos of life into something beautiful
"I don't want to fuel fires with my opinions or verdicts. I have tried to piece together an understanding of how and why, but the answers fade as quickly as they come and if I fall into the abyss of fear I will be of no use to this world so the best I can do is remain optimistic that we can evolve from this struggle and realize that in this journey we are all one."
Tim Bennett of Civilized Tears
Having lived in Tokyo, Brazil, New York, LA, Miami, Milan, London, Paris and Seattle, Tim is no stranger to the beauty that the world can offer. He is also no stranger to the how ugly it can be.
Bennett worked painstakingly hard, doing every job conceivable in order to survive and feed his passion for music and lyrics. After painting houses, acting in commercials, posing nude for worldwide publications, cleaning toilets, canvassing for political organizations, playing in the New York subways, being a courier, being arrested for spying, being a waiter, a bartender, a cook and a gardener, working in clothes stores, selling paintings, selling blood and having to be protected by the Mafia, Tim Bennett maintains that he has never sold his soul!
He has had lunch with Mussolini's grand daughter, been stood up by Phil Spector, been abducted by an Italian Countess, been invited to marry into General Franco's family, been stranded on a desert island, survived two major earthquakes, been the first white man to meet the Sultan of Brunei's witch doctor and has driven through the streets of L.A. under police escort.
Tim has lived on the emotional fringes of life, composing songs that write themselves out of the true experiences that he has had and it is this that makes him so unique and original as an artist.

Blardy Blars
The band all started in late 2005 when a group of friends got together for a practice. There were a few different mess ups, but the remaining lads worked hard to keep the band together.
After playing for a while and recording an EP in Newbury, the four freshly turned 18 year olds started to get their name out. Since then its all started to happen with bigger gigs, bands and venues.
Blardy Blars will do there best to make anyone dance, because having an honest laugh is much better than kissing arse and putting on fake smiles...
