Newbury Mayor, Adrian Edwards, met with local artist, Tessa Kirby and sponsor Steve Pawley of Brewer’s Decorators Merchants to view the public mural from the Newbury Fringe Festival on display at the Town Hall.
Tessa said “the children were wonderful, with more than 50 of them turning up to paint during the day of the festival, despite the pouring rain. This year we were inside a large marquee to keep dry, and the children each had a plastic apron to wear as usual to keep the paint off their clothes.”
“They all absolutely adore this opportunity each year to paint very large spaces; there is some very impressive artistic talent out there. In previous years the painters who arrived later would paint over the earlier work due to the lack of space. This year we increased the number of panels and everyone’s work can be seen clearly.”
“On one panel you can see where a student from Park House School painted the scene from the school earlier in the week when a helicopter and police were called to the scene after explosions were heard in the woods nearby. That painting is lively and quite dramatic.”
The paint, panels and brushes were all supplied by Brewers “we are very pleased to contribute once again towards this excellent piece of work so much enjoyed by the children and their families” said Steve Pawley “it’s good to be able to put something back into the community.“
The Newbury Fringe Festival mural will be on display at the Civic Entrance of the Town Hall during councillors’ Saturday Surgeries until the end of June.
