On Sunday 27th May the Kennet Centre will be alight with an array of sights and sounds when the Festival's dance programme is launched. This year's event sees a whole host of different styles of dance showcasing local talent and proving that the town does not have two left feet!
Trinity School & Performing Arts College, who are included in the line-up, understand that Dance provides a positive vehicle to build self esteem, boost confidence and strengthen resilience. By participating in Dance students learn to become excellent team players - and have fun! This year the school's Dance Company will perform a set of traditional English dances.
More traditional dances will be demonstrated by the Newbury & District Caledonian Society through a selection of Scottish Country Dances from the Society's regular repertoire.
Britain's oldest theatre arts training school, The Italia Conti Academy will present work from their Associate School based at St Gabriel's School, Newbury and Kennet School will perform a selection of items from their yearly dance show "Carnaval de Danse".
Other Fringe favourites including the Newbury Contemporary Dance Company, Dance in the Park, ACE Dance Company and the West Berkshire Youth Dance Company will bring colour, energy and dynamic routines to the floor.
Those who like a touch of the exotic will be pleased to hear that once again Layali Masrea will be entertaining the crowds with their Egyptian style belly dance and Anuradha Chaturvedi will present classical Indian dance originating from the ancient art of storytelling of temples.
Amongst the dance there will also be a class from Monkey Music introducing music and movement to the very young in a way they can understand and enjoy.
And of course there is a chance for everyone to get involved when Cannons Dance Demonstration team invite you to join in with their funky dance exercise programme combining elements from Hip Hop, Funk, Latin, Salsa and Disco.
It's going to be exciting, colourful and bursting with energy! Dancing at the Shops has got the lot! And it's all for FREE. Don't miss out!
